Kate Middleton reappeared at the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony wearing an outfit laden with symbolism.
The princess paid homage to the past while affirming her own identity.
Kate Middleton’s style at Trooping the Colour
At the parade held on June 14 in London, the Princess of Wales opted for an aqua-colored coat dress by Catherine Walker, with a contrasting white collar and a floral hat by Juliette Botterill.
She was accompanied by Prince William and their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, as she watched the military parade from the box alongside King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The choice of color was not accidental. As honorary colonel of the Irish Guards—a regiment participating in the ceremony—Kate dressed in the same blue-green shade that adorns the feathers of their characteristic fur hats.
Technically, this color is called St. Patrick’s blue and is part of the heraldic tradition of the Order of the same name.
She also wore the Irish Guards brooch and pearl earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.
Her look also evoked Princess Diana, who wore a very similar outfit in color and shape during an event in Egypt in 1992.
Kate has made subtle references to her late mother-in-law on more than one occasion, such as when she wore a similar style at a naval christening in Scotland or when she incorporated inherited jewelry, including her sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
In addition to the Bria coat, she completed her outfit with Gianvito Rossi heels in bisque suede, another recurring feature in her wardrobe.
