Princess Isabella is now 18, and like a good Danish royal, she’s celebrating in style: with official portraits, a vibrant dress and jewels with history.
The images were taken in the elegant Gentlemen’s Hall at Frederik VIII Palace in Amalienborg, and mark her formal entry into adulthood within the royal family.
Princess Isabella’s style in official birthday portraits
For the occasion, Isabella wore a clean-silhouetted orange dress designed by Carina Grønning, a Danish creator who, though still little known outside the country, is already attracting attention.
Isabella’s look wasn’t just fashion. It was also tradition, family legacy. She wore the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau tiara, an inherited jewel that is more than a century old and once belonged to Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden, her great-great-grandmother.
The piece, composed of eleven daisies with turquoise and diamonds, was a gift from her grandmother, Queen Margrethe II.
As part of protocol, the princess also wore the Order of the Elephant, Denmark’s highest distinction.
Above the dress hung a small portrait of her father, King Frederik, painted in miniature on a thin sheet of mammoth ivory. The piece was crafted by British artist Tom Mulliner and is framed in gold with pearls and diamonds symbolizing the Order of Dannebrog.
And to complete the styling, turquoise and diamond earrings on loan from her mother, Queen Mary.
Curiously, these earrings were a gift from Queen Margrethe to Mary on her 50th birthday.
