Christiansborg Palace became the epicenter of elegance and tradition with the celebration of a gala dinner hosted by King Frederick X and Queen Mary.
The evening, dedicated to art and culture, brought together more than 300 guests, but undoubtedly, all eyes were on the hostess, Queen Mary, who once again demonstrated why she is a style reference within the royalty.
Queen Mary in a Jenny Packham gown
For the occasion, the queen recovered from her closet a stunning ball gown signed by British designer Jenny Packham.
It is a powder pink design, covered with rhinestones and a delicate embroidery in passementerie of the same color.
The piece, with long sleeves and round neckline, highlights her figure with a subtle detail of silver rhinestones at the waist, simulating a belt.
Interestingly, she is not the only royal who has fallen for this design. The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, wore it at the wedding of Hussein and Rajwa of Jordan in June 2023, although it was Mary who debuted it first.
Queen Mary’s hand-picked tiara
The final touch to her styling was in her jewelry. For this gala, the queen opted for a tiara with a special sentimental value: she acquired it at auction in 2016, a unique piece crafted in 14-karat gold and silver, adorned with small round rubies, diamonds and spinels.
She also paired the tiara with matching earrings, reinforcing the harmony of her look.
As for accessories, Mary opted for a pink satin handbag by Prada and elegant Gianvito Rossi shoes in the same shade.
Margrethe II: the elegance of tradition
Queen Margrethe II, who abdicated in January 2024, did not want to miss the evening.
For the occasion, she chose a navy blue dress with black lace details on top and a plain skirt that she complemented with a brown fur coat.
Her choice of jewelry was also marked by history and tradition. She wore the Baden tiara, an early 20th century jewel designed by Koch jewelry, which depicts five hearts intertwined with flowers and is completely adorned with diamonds.
She completed her ensemble with a stunning necklace with a sapphire surrounded by diamonds, a gift from her parents on her 18th birthday.
