Queen Mary’s Military Elegance: A Royal Tribute to Denmark’s Forces

After her participation in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in Poland, Queen Mary of Denmark once again captured the attention with her impeccable style during a military ceremony in Denmark.

The event took place in the dining room of Frederik VIII Palace, one of the residences that make up the Amalienborg complex.

This historic building was completely renovated in 2004, just after the royal wedding between Frederik and Mary, and the works were completed in 2010 with an investment of 30 million dollars.

In this highly symbolic setting, the monarch dazzled in an outfit that reflects her close relationship with the Danish Armed Forces.

For the occasion, the queen opted for the female military uniform of the Armed Forces company, a design with which she had already appeared in public in 2019.

Her black wool and satin jacket, with gold embroidered details and an elegant floral motif, was complemented by the star of the Order of the Elephant, the country’s highest distinction.

This uniform, worn by all military women in Denmark, is the result of a project initiated more than a decade ago by a group of Air Force officers, who undertook to develop clothing that reflected the role of women in the defense forces.

The privilege of wearing this attire is no accident. Between 2008 and 2009, Queen Mary undertook, on a voluntary basis, her military training while her children Christian and Isabella were still young.

As a result, she is one of the few royal consorts in Europe with official military training, which reinforces her link to the Danish Armed Forces.

The ceremony, at which Queen Margrethe was also present, brought together senior officers of the Royal Danish Navy, especially those with the titles of admiral and commander.

This meeting is part of a tradition established in honor of King Christian X’s birthday, in which each year the Army, Navy and Air Force take turns to pay tribute to servicemen with 25 years of service.
