As every year, the Danish royal family attended one of the country’s most traditional events: the opening of parliament.
However, this occasion was special, as it was the first time that the new monarchs, King Frederick and Queen Mary, presided over the event after the abdication of Queen Margrethe II in January.
Joining them was Princess Benedikte, the king’s aunt, completing the representation of the royal family on this significant day.
Queen Mary’s Style at Danish Parliament Opening
The event was held at Christiansborg Palace, and as protocol dictates, the ladies were required to wear short dresses with a hat or headdress.
Queen Mary did not disappoint and followed the etiquette to perfection, wearing an elegant aquamarine coat by designer Claes Iversen, one of her favorites and also known for dressing Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
This coat, which she had already worn on previous occasions, such as in 2017 and 2022, is a sign of Mary’s commitment to sustainable fashion.
The coat, with a fitted cut and an elegant lapel button, was complemented this time with a green suede hat, in a darker shade than the coat. Unlike 2022, when she paired it with purple accessories, this time the queen opted for a softer, more elegant palette.
The accessories chosen also reflected the queen’s sophistication: nude-colored Gianvito Rossi pumps and a matching Hugo Boss clutch.
As a final touch, Mary adorned her coat with a delicate floral brooch by Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen, a jewel she had already worn on several occasions since she debuted it in 2017.
This brooch, crafted in yellow gold and set with small diamonds, added a touch of subtle sparkle to her ensemble.
Notably absent from the event was Queen Margrethe II, who, due to a fall suffered at her residence at Fredensborg Castle, is in recovery.
The Royal Household issued a statement informing that the queen mother suffered an injury to the vertebrae in her neck and a fracture in her left hand. Although she has been at home since September 21, she is still in the process of recovery and under strict rest instructions.
