As part of “Volunteer Week,” King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium made a meaningful visit to Mechelen on March 4, 2025.
This annual event, running from March 1 to March 9, shines a light on the efforts of volunteers across the country.
Mechelen, in particular, holds a special honor this year as the first Belgian city to be named “European Volunteering Capital.”
The recognition celebrates the invaluable work of thousands of volunteers who contribute daily to building a more inclusive and supportive community.
The royal couple began their visit at City Hall, where they attended a reception acknowledging the dedication of local volunteers.
From there, they proceeded to De Lage Drempel, an organization committed to assisting individuals facing poverty.
Their next stop was Circolito, a youth circus school that introduces children and young people to the world of acrobatics and performance in a fun, inclusive environment.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde engaged warmly with volunteers, young performers, and their families.
Queen Mathilde’s Style in Mechelen
For the occasion, Queen Mathilde opted for an ensemble with a nod to Belgian design. She donned a striking floral brocade coat by Dries Van Noten, layered over a chic draped ruffle top from Natan.
Complementing her outfit was a refined Giorgio Armani Borgonuovo 11 bag in pink croc-embossed leather.
Her accessories included Sézane Cecilia earrings in a delicate old pink shade, a Rolex Datejust watch in silver and gold with a diamond dial, and stylish yet understated footwear to complete the look.
