Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has once again stepped out in style in New York, as she does every September to participate in the events organized around the UN summit.
This year, however, her visit has a special touch. It marks the 15th anniversary of her appointment as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, a role she has performed with great pride and commitment.
This position has taken her all over the world, particularly to developing countries, where she seeks to promote access to finance to boost small and local businesses.

Queen Maxima’s style on her first day in New York City
On her first day in the Big Apple, Queen Maxima decided to project a professional image, moving away from the colorful dresses and headdresses that usually characterize her.
For the occasion, she opted for an elegant two-piece ensemble in burgundy, designed by Claes Iversen, a Danish designer based in Holland.
The outfit, which she had already worn on a trip to Morocco as part of her work with the United Nations, consists of a fitted blazer and palazzo-style pants.
While in Morocco she combined it with a matching blouse, on this occasion she decided to wear a silk top with neckline and straps, giving it a modern and subtle touch.
In addition to her sophisticated attire, Maxima drew attention to the symbolic details in her accessories.
True to her style of eye-catching jewelry, the queen completed her look with maroon earrings that matched her outfit and a brooch that carried a powerful message.
The brooch, a tulip – the emblematic flower of the Netherlands – next to an olive branch, symbolizes peace. This last detail did not go unnoticed, especially in the context of the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, a recurring theme in UN discussions.
According to some, the choice of this brooch reflects Maxima’s desire for peace, a fundamental value in her work and her life.
