On October 12, as she does every year, Queen Letizia participated in the celebration of National Day. Despite the rain that marked the day, the queen did not let that overshadow her impeccable choice of wardrobe.
To attend the military parade and the subsequent reception at the Royal Palace, she opted for a red shirt dress, a color with great significance for the occasion and a recurring choice in her closet.
Queen Letizia’s red dress
The design, by Poète, is a flowing midi-length model, with long puffed sleeves and a cut at the waist that highlighted her figure.
A highlight was the neckline in the back and the collar that closed with a bow, adding elegance to the outfit.
Letizia had already debuted this dress in 2023, although originally the garment was longer and was modified to give it greater versatility in her day to day.
To complete her look, the queen paired the dress with a Carolina Herrera trench coat, Magrit kitten heels, an Adolfo Dominguez clutch and her favorite Aldao earrings.
This vibrant and youthful ensemble is no coincidence, as other queens, such as Rania of Jordan and Mary of Denmark, have also gone for the power of a red dress for formal events.
Red dress: a popular trend among royals
Queen Rania is known for her good taste in fashion, and on more than one occasion she has worn a red dress similar to Letizia’s.
In 2021, during a visit to the White House with Jill Biden, Rania chose a flowing dress in this vibrant shade by Jordanian house Bazaza, to which she added a brown sash and ruby brooch.
In another appearance, in November 2022, she opted for a similar look, although this time she swapped the sash for a simpler black one for an event at the Jordanian Parliament.
Mary of Denmark has also resorted to a similar style on several occasions. One of her most memorable dresses is the Raquel Diniz design she debuted in 2018 during a meeting with Brigitte Macron.
Although she has worn it more than once, it was her 2023 appearance at Christiansfeld’s 250th anniversary celebration, when she paired it with camel accessories and a headpiece by milliner Jane Taylor, that really made an impression.
The Red Dress: A Timeless Icon
Even before them, Princess Mette-Marit of Norway also joined the trend in 2017, sporting a similar red dress at the Munch Museum in Oslo.
Mette-Marit opted for an understated look, with the neck tie back and neutral accessories that allowed the vibrant color and movement of the dress to take center stage.
This type of shirt dress, especially in red, has established itself as a staple among royal women. It is elegant, versatile and brings an air of sophistication that transcends age and style.
