To welcome the week, King Felipe and Queen Letizia did so in a spectacular way. Both led the presentation of some very significant awards, especially for Queen Letizia.
We are talking about the Cerecedo Prize, a renowned award given by the Association of European Journalists.
This event is one of the most special on the agenda of the Spanish monarchy for the queen, who has a previous career in journalism and feels a special attachment to this celebration.
Journalist Carlos Franganillo was this year’s honoree. The Association of European Journalists recognized him for “his ability to communicate complex facts of national and international current affairs to wide audiences and his gift to inspire new generations of journalists,” as pointed out by the award’s jury.

The ceremony, as usual, was held at the luxurious Ritz Hotel in Madrid. During the event, King Felipe gave a speech in which he not only praised the award winner’s work, but also remembered the people affected by the devastating floods in Valencia.
“At times like this, the purpose of the award becomes even more important: to recognize the best values of journalism, those that remain steadfast despite the rapid changes facing the media and the profession itself,” the monarch expressed before a crowd of assembled authorities and journalists.
In addition, Felipe highlighted the need to adjust the format of the ceremony due to the magnitude of the tragedy.
“This change, given the circumstances, we consider it totally necessary,” he added.
Regarding her attire, Queen Letizia wore a black suit that combined a tuxedo-collared jacket and palazzo pants by Mango, designed especially for the occasion.
Accessories included a matching satin blouse, elegant Massimo Dutti shoes, and simple gold hoop earrings that accentuated her style.
Undoubtedly, it was an event that not only celebrated quality journalism but also reminded us of the importance of social responsibility in difficult times.
