The recent elegant event of the Spanish monarchy has aroused great media interest.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were present at the Planeta Awards ceremony, a prestigious recognition that honors the work of writers.
At this gala, Queen Letizia wore a stunning Carolina Herrera dress, which, although it looked great on her, generated some criticism.
During the award ceremony, the King and Queen and the rest of the guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, whose menu included a roasted pear vichyssoise with red shrimp and tomato tartar as a first course.
The main course was a Catalan-style sea bass, which delighted the guests. To round off the evening, a dessert that paid tribute to the night was offered: an exquisite combination of chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry crocanti.
However, what really grabbed the attention during the dinner was a gesture by King Felipe that went viral on social media: a hit to Queen Letizia.
Why Did King Felipe Hit Queen Letizia?
A video spread on social media showed the moment in which the Queen takes a knife to cut the cake that adorned the table, at which point the King notices the situation and, with a slight slap on the arm, tries to prevent his wife from cutting the cake.
Protocol has always played a fundamental role in the monarchy, which draws attention when any of its members seem to deviate from the established rules. This led many to wonder why the King interceded in the face of his wife’s action.
Spanish journalist and writer Sergio C. Fanjul, who was also present at the awards, clarified the incident. Through his social media, he expressed that the cake in question was made of cardboard, placed only as decoration.
The real surprise was that a mini cake would be served in an individual dish for each guest. Therefore, the King’s gesture was not intended to prevent the Queen from enjoying dessert, but to prevent her from breaking a decoration that was not edible.
This incident, beyond the comments and criticisms, reflects the importance of protocol in the royal sphere and how small moments of spontaneity can become a topic of conversation in the digital world.
