Felipe VI consolidated his position in 2023 as the European monarch who performed the most official acts outside his office, according to a recent study published by the British media UFO No More.
With 193 events headed last year, the King of Spain remained at the top of the ranking prepared by said publication, which analyzes the public activity of several Royal Houses of the Old Continent.
King Felipe of Spain, the monarch who works the hardest
The report by UFO No More, which keeps detailed track of the official engagements of kings and leading members of different monarchies, revealed that Felipe VI headed 193 events during 2023, the highest number recorded among his European peers for the second year in a row.
Queen Letizia, his wife, ranked third among the royal consorts with the most public work, only surpassed by Máxima of Holland and Silvia of Sweden.
Meanwhile, Queen Emeritus Sofia was present in 17 official activities, seven less than in 2022.
Considering the entire Spanish Royal Family, the report counted 213 days of public work during 2023, or 58.3% of the total days of the year.
This figure meant an increase of four working days compared to 2022 when 219 official acts were recorded.
Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, daughters of Felipe VI and Letizia, also progressively increased their presence in the Royal Household’s public agenda, with 13 and 11 events respectively, especially the heir to the throne after coming of age in October.
The events presided over by the King covered his traditional areas of interest such as Defense, Economy, Health, Culture, and International Relations.
Compared to the British Royal Family, the UFO No More report only recorded events headlined by Princes William and Kate Middleton and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, neither of whom are full members of the monarchy.
