The British people enjoyed King Charles’ first Trooping the Colour last Saturday, June 17th.
However, the 74-year-old monarch made some adjustments to the important celebration that apparently were not well received by his subjects.
The king decided to reduce the number of members of the royal family who appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
In 2019, over 40 members of royalty were present on the balcony, but this year only 14 members of the Windsors attended, which was considered boring by many, according to the Daily Mail.
At last year’s celebrations, at least 17 members, including the late queen, were present on the balcony, but this year the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s children, James, Earl of Wessex, and Lady Louise Windsor, were missing.
However, these two young people were present at the coronation salute from the popular Buckingham balcony on May 6th.
First Trooping the Colour of King Charles III
King Charles III’s first Trooping the Colour saw the late Queen Isabel’s son on horseback at the parade in his honor, where over 1500 soldiers, 300 horses, and 400 musicians created an impressive display of military precision to commemorate his official birthday.
Although there was a great military display, the last appearance of the royal family generated much controversy.
According to the aforementioned British media outlet, a monarchy supporter expressed disappointment about the official photos.
On their Twitter account, they shared two photos and wrote: “It is so sad that the appearance on the balcony after #TroopingtheColour is so predictable from now on. I loved examining the balcony photos to see who was there and who wasn’t. It is unnecessary and boring that this beautiful tradition has been lost,” the user said.

On social media, many similar messages were shared, such as that of another royalty follower who expressed their longing to see the whole family on the balcony.
Despite the general dissatisfaction, the royal family created memorable moments on the balcony. One of them was the tender gesture made by Prince William and his daughter, Princess Charlotte, when at one point, William placed his hands on Charlotte’s shoulders and she, in turn, brought them even closer to herself.
This gesture was interpreted by many as a demonstration of the immense love that father and daughter feel.
Additionally, as usual, Prince Louis’ behavior also generated more than one comment on social media. The 5-year-old stole the show with his adorable gestures.
