The ladies of the Bernadotte family know how to add extra flair to a gala dinner.
They have a big jewelry collection full of unique pieces, which they didn’t hesitate to show off on Monday night at the banquet hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf in honor of Frederik and Mary of Denmark, who are on their first State Visit to Sweden during their reign.
Royal Banquet at Stockholm Palace
The Royal Palace of Stockholm was the setting for this gathering of both royal families, leaving us with memorable looks.
Princess Victoria
Princess Victoria chose a dress covered in sequins by Christer Lindarw, the same designer she wore for the welcome ceremony.
It’s a off-white dress, entirely covered in sequins, with a boat neckline, short sleeves, and a fitted silhouette. She paired it with a silver clutch.
She adorned her head with the Connaught tiara, a special gesture to Frederik and Mary, as it belonged to Margareta of Connaught, the grandmother of Carl XVI Gustaf and Margrethe II.
It’s a historic piece made of diamonds of different cuts, forming a garland with five loops from which diamond drops hang.
It was a gift from the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, Arthur of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and Louise Margaret of Prussia, to their daughter Margareta on her wedding to Prince Gustaf Adolf, later Gustaf VI Adolf.
When Margareta passed away, she left the tiara to her son, Prince Carl Gustaf, who gave it to his wife, Princess Sybilla, who in turn left it to her only son, the current king.
Victoria has worn it on numerous occasions, like other women in the family.
The portrait of the Family Order with her father’s image held the sash of the Danish Order of the Elephant, the same one worn by Silvia.
Queen Silvia
The Queen of Sweden opted for a green dress from the German brand Georg et Arend, which she had worn before.
It’s a fairly understated model, compared to Silvia’s usual attire, consisting of a lace bodice with long sleeves and a plain skirt with a slight flare.
The Swedish queen chose the Leuchtenberg sapphire tiara, a gift from Napoleon to his stepson, Eugene de Beauharnais, on his marriage to Princess Augusta Amalia of Bavaria, who left it to her eldest daughter, Josephine de Leuchtenberg, wife of King Oscar I of Sweden.
Since then, it has become one of the most important jewels of the Swedish Crown.
It’s a tiara made of diamonds and sapphires, representing honeysuckle.
The tiara is part of a parure that also includes a striking necklace, earrings, and a round brooch, pieces that Queen Silvia also wore at the dinner with Denmark.
Princess Sofia
Now, let’s talk about Princess Sofia, who wore a dress she had previously worn at the 2022 Nobel Prizes.
It’s a design by Ida Lanto in sky blue, full of sheer details. It has three-quarter sleeves, a high neckline adorned with floral embroidery, and a flowing skirt.
Unlike her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sofia didn’t wear the Order of the Elephant sash because she hasn’t been awarded it. Instead, she wore the Swedish Order of the Seraphim sash.
As usual, Sofia wore the tiara given to her by her in-laws for her wedding to Carl Philip.
The original tiara has emeralds, but she changes it according to her outfit; she has worn it without anything, with pearls, citrines, turquoises, and topazes. This time, she wore the latter stones, matching her sky blue dress.
