The grand wedding of Duke of Westminster Hugh Grosvenor to Olivia Henson, which will take place on June 7, 2024, has been shrouded in rumor and speculation in recent weeks.
The uproar began when news broke that Grosvenor had allegedly not invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to their wedding, thus snubbing his best friend, Prince Harry.
Now, it has been revealed that Harry did receive an invitation to his friend’s wedding, but he chose to decline for a compelling reason.
Why won’t Prince Harry attend the Duke of Westminster’s wedding?
As a source told Page Six, the Duke of Sussex personally contacted Grosvenor to apologize for not being able to attend the wedding. His wife Meghan Markle, who had also been invited, will also not be in attendance.
It was initially believed that the Sussexes had been completely excluded from the guest list. However, the report reveals that it was an exclusive decision by Harry, who preferred to decline the invitation so as not to cause awkward situations with Charles III, Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, who will most likely attend.
Both Prince William and his brother Harry are close friends of the Duke of Westminster. William could even be the best man at the wedding. On the other hand, Grosvenor is the godfather of princes George and Archie, sons of William and Harry respectively.
The decision not to attend the link would have been taken long before the recent controversy sparked by the book “Endgame”. The publication has intensified tensions between the Sussexes and the rest of the royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s last appearance was recently during an ice hockey game in Vancouver where they were promoting the Invictus 2025 Games in Canada.
This week, Meghan was spotted in Santa Barbara without Harry. The Duchess was seen in sportswear, calm and very smiley.
Many speculate that on that outing Meghan sent a message to King Charles with an accessory she wore.
