In response to the devastating wildfires that have swept through Los Angeles this week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have issued a heartfelt statement addressing the tragedy.
The Palisades Fire, Sunset Fire, Eaton Fire, and other blazes have caused widespread destruction, impacting tens of thousands of lives.
Harry and Meghan on California Wildfires
On their website, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a message that began,
“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.” They also noted that “a state of emergency has been issued.”
The couple provided a list of resources and organizations for those who wish to help.
Among the organizations mentioned were chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, CAL FIRE, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the Animal Wellness Foundation, and the Compton Cowboys.
Harry and Meghan emphasized their support for these groups, which are aiding affected individuals and animals.
They also highlighted efforts by Airbnb and 211LA, which are offering free housing to those displaced by the wildfires.
Nonprofits like Baby2Baby and All Power Books are providing essential supplies to those in need.
The Sussexes encouraged people to open their homes to those evacuating the fires.
“If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do,” they wrote.
They also urged people to check on disabled or elderly neighbors who might need assistance.
They further suggested donating clothing, children’s toys, and other essentials, noting that “some families and people have been left with nothing.” The American Red Cross was mentioned as being actively on the ground to help those affected.
Are Harry and Meghan in danger from the California fires?
Meghan and Harry reside in Montecito, approximately 90 miles north of Los Angeles. Their multimillion-dollar mansion, located in this celebrity enclave, could also be threatened if the Palisades Fire continues to spread.
The couple moved into their Montecito home shortly after stepping down as senior working royals in 2020.
As the wildfires continue to burn, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shown their commitment to supporting their community and those in need during this crisis.
