On a rainy night on October 31, 2005, Princess Leonor of Spain was born at the Ruber Clinic in Madrid.
Her father, the then Prince of Asturias, revealed in front of dozens of journalists that Leonor had been born at half past one, that she weighed almost four kilos and that he had been present during the cesarean section that Letizia had undergone.
Queen Sofia told the journalists who asked what the princess looked like, she replied: “fat, round and cries a lot”, a comment that apparently annoyed Letizia. King Juan Carlos laughingly said that newborns never looked like anyone to him.
The Infanta Cristina rolled down the window of the car where she was traveling to tell reporters that Leonor was “beautiful”.
For her part, the Infanta Elena told the press that her brother would have to wear a bib when he looked at his daughter because he drooled.
Since then, Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz has never been mentioned again, thus becoming the most mysterious princess in Europe. Little is known about her life, her tastes, what she is passionate about.
Princess Leonor’s 17th birthday under mystery
The only thing that is known about the heiress to the throne in 17 years of life is that she studied at the Santa Maria de los Rosales College, today she is in her second year of high school in Wales, that she speaks several languages and that she has undergone orthodontic treatment. Beyond that, nothing is known.
While the princess lived in Spain, no journalist knew what grades she got, what friends she had, what extracurricular activities she did. At present it is unknown what she does in her free time or how she is doing in Wales, how is her character, her hobbies or activities. All the news that come out about Princess Leonor are hypothesis, rumors, suppositions, gossip, information, and have never been corroborated or denied by the Zarzuela.
Leonor lives a very different life from her father’s.
The childhood of the then Prince Felipe was an open book, journalists were always informed about his tastes and hobbies. At the age of five he played the flute, enjoyed acting and participated in several theatrical comedies. He collected tin soldiers, lighters, coins, stuffed butterflies, but what he liked most in the world was to look at the stars with the telescope that his grandmother gave him.
At the age of 15 he also gave his first interviews and had his bedroom photographed. It was known about his first girlfriend, Viki Carvajal, whom he left on the advice of his mother when the girl began to study journalism.
So much was known about King Felipe’s life that there is a biography called ‘The Prince’ that had almost 800 pages. On the other hand, nothing is known about Princess Leonor.
“I want the Spaniards to know me. If not, nothing would make sense”. Felipe said in one of his first speeches as Prince of Asturias.
Leonor the most mysterious princess in Europe
The European heiresses have understood very well the power of communication and know that, in order to win the hearts of their people, they must show themselves and be close to them.
- Elisabeth of Belgium has been photographed several times in the residence she shares with other students.
- Ingrid of Norway speaks freely about her hobbies and has said she would like to become a doctor.
- Amalia of Holland, has confessed that she visits a psychologist, that she is a feminist and supporter of freedom of expression and that she would never go against LGTB laws.
The next queen of Spain will come to the throne with a halo of mystery never seen before in the modern monarchy.
