Infanta Cristina, 58, and her estranged husband Iñaki Urdangarin, 55, reunited publicly for the first time on Saturday, September 2.
The former Duke and Duchess of Palma attended a handball match in Barcelona to support their son Pablo Urdangarin, 22, in his new team, Fraikin BM Granollers.
Reunion between Iñaki Urdangarin and Infanta Cristina
Alongside Cristina and Iñaki were their other children: Miguel, 21, Irene, 18, and Pablo’s girlfriend, Johanna Zott.
The only absentee on the Urdangarin side was Juan, 23, who lives in London.
The family sat together in the stands, with Iñaki one row behind Cristina.
Johanna proudly wore her boyfriend Pablo’s team jersey, while the rest dressed casually.
Both Cristina and Iñaki seemed focused on the game.
Iñaki was seen chatting with Miguel and Irene. For her part, Cristina was chatting with a woman on the other side of her.
The presence of both parents in the midst of a divorce process shows a family united despite the circumstances, maintaining their support for Pablo on his big day.
Unfortunately, Pablo’s team lost 18-20 and was eliminated from the Europa League.
The reunion probably ended on a somber note despite the show of family spirit.
Cristina and Iñaki had already met in June with their children on the occasion of their daughter Irene’s graduation in Switzerland.
Cristina and Iñaki’s marriage fell apart after he became embroiled in a financial scandal in which he was accused of fraud and later jailed.
Later, in January 2022 a Spanish portal published photos of Iñaki Urdangarin with his current partner, Ainhoa Armentia walking along a beach holding hands.
It was believed that their divorce between Iñaki and Cristina would be finalized after their daughter Irene turned 18, thus avoiding custody issues. But the official separation has yet to be confirmed.
