Inside Chiado, Lisbon’s bohemian neighborhood that will welcome Infanta Sofia

They say that there are neighborhoods that seem tailor-made for a new chapter in someone’s life. In the case of Infanta Sofía, that place is called Chiado, in Lisbon.

A corner with a bohemian soul, cobblestones that tell stories, and cafés where time seems to stand still.

There, among century-old bookstores and the aroma of strong coffee, she will begin her university studies at Forward College in September, with her sights set on politics and international relations.

The life of Infanta Sofía in Chiado, Lisbon

Chiado is not just any neighborhood. It has been a meeting place for artists, writers, and dreamers for centuries.

A stone’s throw from Baixa and connected by the famous Santa Justa elevator, it offers a curious mix of bookstores such as Bertrand, recognized as the oldest in the world, and legendary cafés such as A Brasileira, where Pessoa used to sit and observe the world.

Imagining Sofia crossing those streets on her way to class, mingling with everyday Lisbon life, is like something out of a movie.

Forward College promises much more than just classes; it offers an international atmosphere, debates in English, personal coaching, and the unique experience of living in a different city each year.

Lisbon will be just the beginning; Paris and Berlin will follow. But this first year, with the Atlantic so close and Chiado as the backdrop, may be the most special.

After all, starting a new chapter in a city that breathes art and culture is almost like carrying an invisible compass toward what you want to be.
