Infanta Sofía de Borbón has grown up under the public eye as the second daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia.

However, far from being a “second daughter”, the 16-year-old has been developing a role of her own that will be crucial in the future, both personally and institutionally.

Sofia was born on April 29, 2007 at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid.

She was baptized at the Zarzuela two months later, with the Bulgarian Prince Konstantin-Assen and her grandmother Paloma Rocasolano as godparents.

Like her sister Leonor, she was also presented before the Virgin of Atocha, patron saint of Spanish royalty.

Unlike the heir to the throne, described as more introverted, Sofia stands out for her extroverted and joking character.

Those who know her say she loves to tell jokes and laugh. However, this does not detract from the fact that the two sisters are thick as thieves despite their differences.

Sofia grew up in a close family environment fostered by Letizia, who was very attentive to her daughters’ education.

The Queen always wanted them to have a happy and normal childhood as much as possible.

Both Sofia and Leonor share hobbies such as horseback riding, skiing or reading, although their favorite sport is soccer.

Although Letizia sought an equal education for both, it is heiress Leonor who has taken on more responsibility over the years.

However, Sofia’s growing prominence began in 2020 when she read an excerpt from “Don Quixote” for Book Day during the pandemic.

In 2021 she participated in her first solo act alongside Leonor, planting a tree in Madrid for the environment.

At Christmas 2022, the sisters starred alone in the end-of-year card.

Their growing presence was also due to Princess Leonor’s departure to Wales to study high school in 2022.

At 16, Sofia is emerging as a benchmark of her own style, compared to the iconic Letizia.
