Infanta Sofia is nearing the end of her first year at Forward College in Lisbon, where she is studying Political Science and International Relations.
Princess Leonor’s younger sister began her studies in September, and the academic year concludes on June 5th, with spring break from April 3rd to 12th before the final exams. But before reaching that point, she must make a decision that will significantly shape her academic experience.
What is this important decision? Well, the Infanta will have to choose between three certificates that the center itself offers as a complement to her degree.
What are the three options Forward College is offering to Princess Sofia?
The options are quite different from each other. The first is the Sustainability and Social Impact Entrepreneurship certificate, designed for those who want to work on issues like climate change, inequality, education, or refugees.
The second is the Digital Entrepreneurship certificate, which focuses on creating digital solutions from scratch to explore social or business opportunities.
And the third is the Research Project, which the center itself describes as something that “requires courage, creativity, and rigor at the same time” and can be done individually or in a team with an academic fellow.
Each option targets a different profile, and your choice will reveal a lot about the direction you want to take with your training.
The educational model at Forward College, where Sofia studies
Forward College is not a typical university, and this is evident in its approach. In addition to the academic curriculum, it integrates artificial intelligence tools from day one.
They have an AI Hub that provides access to platforms like GPT and Claude, along with a tracking dashboard for students to measure and strengthen their skills in that area. “AI isn’t just a topic; it’s part of our DNA,” the center explains.
What’s next for Sofia after her first year, and where she could do an internship
The Forward College model is designed for three cities: Lisbon for the first year, Paris for the second, and Berlin for the third.
Sofia already has international experience, having graduated from UWC Atlantic College in Wales in May 2025, so this program aligns with her career path.
Regarding internships, students in her field have access to organizations such as the OECD, BNP Paribas, L’Oréal, Amazon, and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, among many others.
What exactly she will do after graduating is, for now, unknown.
