The Infanta Sofía is about to turn 18. On April 29th, she will blow out the candles on her birthday cake, and with that, more royal responsibilities are expected for Princess Leonor’s sister.
However, the celebration will not be like her sister Leonor’s. Being the heir to the throne, Leonor had a different ceremony that included taking an oath to the Constitution, among other events.
Infanta Sofia’s birthday
For Sofía, things are going to be quieter. Why? Because Leonor will be far away, in the middle of a voyage aboard the ship Juan Sebastian Elcano.
In other words, while Sofía is celebrating, Leonor will be sailing across the waters of various countries on the other side of the world.
Not only that, but Sofía herself will be at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, so she will celebrate her birthday with her high school classmates.
What awaits Sofía after the party? Well, graduation.
On May 24th, she will don her cap and gown at St. Donat’s Castle. And although Leonor will miss this event as she is still on the ship, Sofía’s parents and grandmothers—either Queen Emeritus Sofía or Queen Letizia’s mother—will certainly not miss it for anything in the world.
