A special date is already marked on the calendar of the Spanish royal family, it is the confirmation of Infanta Sofia, 15.
The youngest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain will receive the sacrament of the Catholic Church together with her classmates at the Santa María de los Rosales school in Madrid, where the young girl is studying her last year before moving to Wales and starting her baccalaureate at the UWC Atlantic College, the same school where her sister, Princess Leonor, studies.
Confirmation of Infanta Sofia
The Spanish press published that the daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia will receive her Confirmation in the parish of Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Aravaca, the same church where she made her First Communion.
The special date is scheduled for May 25, almost a month after her 16th birthday. This day both she and her companions will be accompanied by their families on such a significant day, and it is expected that Princess Leonor will be among those attending the ceremony.
Among the attendees, it is possible that other family members such as Queen Emeritus Sofia or Sofia’s maternal grandparents, Queen Letizia’s parents Jesús Ortiz and Paloma Rocasolano, will also be present. It is less likely that the king emeritus, Juan Carlos I, will attend because he currently resides in Abu Dhabi.
Recall that, in 2021, when Leonor made her confirmation, only the Kings could be present due to pandemic restrictions, it is possible that the guest list will increase for Sofia’s confirmation.
As an additional detail, the infanta has also chosen her father, Felipe VI, as godfather for her confirmation, just as her sister did. The ceremony is expected to be simple, in the same way, that Leonor’s was.
This would be one of the last family events that the kings will share with their daughter before she heads to Wales to begin her high school studies.
