Eating well is important for everyone, even royalty. Good or bad, the effects of diet go beyond just gaining or losing weight.
It’s about taking care of oneself, and Queen Letizia of Spain, 51, knows this well. She has always emphasized the need for a balanced diet to maintain good health.
This practice goes hand in hand with staying fit and leading a healthy lifestyle.
Queen Letizia has passed these values on to her daughters, Princess Leonor, 18, and Infanta Sofia, 17.
Since they were young, both Leonor and Sofia learned from their mother about healthy eating.
Queen Letizia always made sure they incorporated healthy habits into their daily lives.
Now, as they grow older and spend more time away from home, Letizia has less control over their diets.
In 2024, Princess Leonor is undergoing military training at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza, while her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, is attending UWC Atlantic College in Wales.
Infanta Sofia’s New Diet
When Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia were studying at Santa Maria de los Rosales School in Madrid, Queen Letizia made sure the school served plenty of vegetables, fruits, fish, roasted chicken, and legumes.
However, with Sofia now studying in Wales, Letizia’s influence is limited by distance.
Despite this, there is good news for Queen Letizia. UWC Atlantic College offers a varied menu that aligns with her healthy eating philosophy.
The school provides a variety of meals, including fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish, which are essential for a balanced diet. They also offer legumes and sweet potatoes as carbohydrate sources.
A former student who attended the school from 2020 to 2022 shared that the meals ranged from chickpea rolls with cherry tomatoes to broccoli and mushroom stir-fries, and green beans with rice.
The diversity in the menu ensures that students have healthy options.

Diversity is not just in the food but also among the students, as UWC Atlantic College hosts many international students like Sofia.
The menu reflects this diversity by including dishes from different parts of the world.
While traditional British foods like ‘fish and chips’ are available, the menu also features tacos, pasta dishes, and pita bread with hummus, catering to various tastes.
Occasionally, the school hosts themed nights and celebrations where students can enjoy less healthy treats.
These events include colorful cakes, ice cream, butter cookies, waffles, and even brownies.
These sweet treats are quite different from the strict diet at the royal palace, where sugar is rarely allowed. At home, sweets are limited to special occasions like the Roscón de Reyes.
While Queen Letizia is not there to monitor Sofia’s diet, UWC Atlantic College offers a well-balanced and diverse menu that promotes healthy eating.
This ensures that Sofia continues to follow the healthy habits instilled in her by her mother, even while studying abroad.
