Instagram, which has become one of the most influential social media platforms, now joins the communication channels of the Royal Household. Until now, the Royal Household primarily informed the public about its activities through its website and other established social media platforms like Twitter.
With this initiative, King Felipe and Queen Letizia take a step toward modernization and adaptation to new digital communication methods.
New Instagram account of Spain’s royal family
The Spanish Royal Household chose Thursday to launch its official Instagram profile under the verified username @casareal.es. The account began operating in the morning, marking a digital presence milestone for the monarchy.
In a significant gesture, the King and Queen shared ten photographs taken during the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the King’s proclamation.
These photos reflect their commitment to “service, dedication, and duty,” which are pillars of the monarchy.
The first post recalls the King’s speech, reaffirming dedication to constitutional values and service to Spain.
The profile also features sections dedicated to King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía, as well as Queen Sofía. However, it does not include other members of the Royal Family.
A decade after the proclamation, King Felipe and Queen Letizia join Instagram, the preferred platform of influencers, one day after the royal anniversary events. Undoubtedly, they will experience a significant increase in their number of followers.
Although they already have over 1.1 million followers on the social media platform X, Instagram could surpass that figure, especially since it is the preferred platform for many.
