Irene Urdangarin, Infanta Cristina’s youngest daughter, has had to give up her end-of-year school trip for two reasons: she is still a minor, and her mother advised her to stay in Geneva to avoid paparazzi photographing her in compromising situations.
Sources close to the circle of Infanta Cristina have revealed to the Spanish portal Monarquía Confidencial that she has always wanted to maintain discretion in the life of her family and does not want her children to be exposed in the same way as Felipe Juan Froilán and Victoria Federica, the children of the Infanta Elena.
“She does not want her children to be in the media spotlight, which could lead to unwanted situations.”
Irene Urdangarin got angry with her mother
On this occasion, Irene Urdangarin is at the center of the controversy, not because of any negative action or unbridled partying, but because of the disagreement she has had with her mother.
According to sources close to Infanta Cristina, her youngest daughter does not agree with her mother’s decisions regarding her private life.
“Cristina is afraid that her children will be criticized for her actions, and that is why she is very protective of them,” said the source. In addition, Infanta is going through a delicate moment with the divorce from Iñaki Urdangarin.
According to this source, Infanta’s irritable mood is partly due to the tension that is causing the clauses of the divorce with the father of her children, and this tension seems to have repercussions on her youngest daughter.
Irene is about to turn eighteen and will graduate just a week after reaching that milestone. However, she is disappointed to have missed out on moments with her classmates in Greece.
The story of the children of the former Duke and Duchess of Palma is well known. Pablo Nicolás, Juan Valentín, Miguel, and Irene have been entangled for several years in the judicial affairs that have affected both their mother and their father, Iñaki Urdangarin who was convicted and served a prison sentence in Brieva.
“They have suffered a lot. They were younger. They have always been very discreet, and being in that situation affected them negatively for quite some time,” the source confesses.
However, the four siblings have always remained very close, focusing on their academic pursuits both in Washington and, later, in Geneva. They have made an effort to distance themselves from rude behavior, poor academic performance, and the numerous parties in which their cousins, Victoria Federica, and Felipe Juan Froilán, have participated.
“She is an exemplary mother, and her children are educated and responsible with their obligations, but they are still people who must forge their own path,” the source concludes.
