King Charles III has only been on the throne for a short time, but according to a royal expert, he is already planning to retire and pass the crown to Prince William.
This was told to Express US by author Clive Irving, who believes that Charles simply wants to have his moment of glory as King and then hand over to the new generation led by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Is King Charles preparing to abdicate?
Irving claims that Charles wants to successfully complete the current ‘tricky phase’ he has faced since the release of the docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’ and Prince Harry’s controversial book, ‘Spare’, both of which have caused tensions in the royal family.
Apparently, King Charles plans to pass the royal baton to his eldest son, Prince William, once he manages to calm the waters in the family, according to a royal expert.
The monarch would have decided that the best thing to do is to overcome this complicated transition phase, consolidate William as heir, and then retire at the age of 80 with Camilla to enjoy his last years at Balmoral.
“It may have already been secretly planned that the King will step down when he’s 80,” he said.
At 75, Charles is the oldest king to accede to the British throne, so it would not be surprising if his period of rule was relatively short.
While he feels it is his duty to continue to serve to finish the difficult transition, the current difficult circumstances could force him to abdicate earlier than planned according to Irving.
Four real reasons that would cause Charles III to leave the throne:
- William and Kate would eventually assume the full limelight.
- It would allow him and Camilla to retire in peace to Balmoral.
- It would consolidate William’s popularity in the monarchical transition.
- It would prevent him from ruling at an advanced age and in frail health.
Although Buckingham has not pronounced, it would not be surprising if the current monarch opts for a short period of leadership to facilitate dynastic continuity in Prince William.
