The new season of the series The Crown brought to the forefront people who were part of Princess Diana’s life, one of them is James Colthurst, the doctor and personal friend of the remembered Princess of the People.
Colthurst met the princess in a somewhat peculiar way, he went to a call to attend a patient with a sprained ankle who turned out to be a young Diana, just 17 years old.
Diana had fallen while skiing in France, by which time James was just a medical student, but he was asked to check her out to make sure it was nothing serious. Two years later, that young woman would walk down the aisle to marry the then Prince Charles.

Over the years the friendship between them grew stronger to the point that the doctor born in Cork, Ireland in 1958; son of Sir Richard la Touche Colthurst, ninth baronet and Janet Wilson-Wright, became Diana’s confidant during the worst years of her marriage to Charles.
In the series he is presented as an intermediary between her and the journalist and writer Andrew Morton, who ended up becoming the princess’s biographer.
After Diana’s death, his dear friend moved away from the world spotlight, according to the British newspaper The Sun, got married in 1990 and has two daughters named: Cicely and Leah. He is currently 65 years old and lives in Berkshire, UK.
The British media Daily Express published an interview in 2021 where it can be seen how he is nowadays.
