On April 29, 2011, millions of people around the world witnessed the royal wedding between Prince William of England and Kate Middleton.
As a princess-to-be and at one of the most media-rich events of the decade, Kate might have been expected to entrust her image to expert stylists and makeup artists.
However, in a gesture that surprised many, the bride decided to do her own makeup for the occasion, showing great self-confidence.
Kate Middleton did her own makeup
Aware of the historical relevance of her wedding and that her image would be transmitted to billions of people, Kate Middleton took classes with makeup artist Arabella Preston, during the months leading up to the wedding, to perfect her technique.
Hard as it may be to believe, Kate Middleton did do her own makeup for her wedding day. The then-future Duchess of Cambridge used natural tones, sober and with very marked eyes that would later define her looks.
The result could not have been more successful. Wearing an iconic Alexander McQueen wedding dress, the natural makeup enhanced her beauty in front of the cameras.
The press praised her good taste and highlighted Kate’s decisive character, who did not hesitate to impose her wishes on an event of such historical significance.
With this small but significant gesture, Kate Middleton showed that she was not willing to give up her autonomy and self-confidence as a modern woman.
