This Saturday, June 8, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, was expected to attend the Colonel’s Review, a precursor to the annual Trooping the Colour celebration.
The princess, who is the honorary colonel of the Irish Guards, did not participate in the rehearsal for the parade, which this year is a highlight of King Charles’ birthday celebrations.
In the weeks leading up to the event, there was much speculation about whether the princess would be present.
Ultimately, her absence was confirmed, and she was replaced by General James Bucknall. However, Kate herself broke her silence by sending an emotional letter, marking her presence in a significant way.
Kate Middleton letter
The Princess of Wales shared a letter apologizing for missing an important Trooping the Colour rehearsal as she continues to stay out of the public eye during her cancer treatment.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday, June 8, she wrote of her pride in the entire regiment.
She continued, “Being your colonel remains a great honor and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved.”
The Princess concluded her letter with the motto “Quis Separabit,” signing off as “Colonel Catherine.”
Analysis of the Letter from the Princess of Wales
One notable aspect of the letter is Kate’s hint at her imminent return to royal duties when she expressed hope to represent them all “very soon,” suggesting readiness to resume her official role.
Furthermore, Kate Middleton has been a focal point of international media attention for months. Her reemergence, albeit through a letter, has been analyzed by outlets such as Germany’s ‘Bunte’, which characterized her words as a “touching step forward.”
This act underscores her unwavering commitment to her royal responsibilities, despite her ongoing health battle.
“The Irish Guards were deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning. We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes. Quis Separabit @KensingtonRoyal @ArmyInLondon,” the Irish Guards wrote alongside images of the letter.
Will Kate Middleton Appear at Trooping the Colour?
Trooping the Colour is a pivotal date for the British monarchy, and many expected the princess to choose this significant day for her return.
However, amid speculation, Kensington Palace clarified that Kate would not be actively participating in the event. The term “actively” has piqued interest.
What does it mean to not actively participate in the parade? Issuing the letter to the Irish Guards is one such example.
As such, it wouldn’t be surprising if Middleton made another gesture to honor the day without jeopardizing her convalescence. According to the ‘Daily Mail’, this could include a brief appearance on the iconic balcony of Buckingham Palace, where the royal family traditionally greets the public.
