Buckingham Palace has reported that King Charles awarded 21 honorary military appointments to members of the royal family. Prominent among them is Kate Middleton.
Princess of Wales has been awarded a trio of prestigious military titles spanning the three main branches of the armed forces.
The new appointments reflect Kate’s increasing prominence within the royal family since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
What are Kate Middleton’s new military titles?
Charles III granted Kate the position of Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm of the British Navy. Previously, Prince Andrew had been stripped of this position amid his scandal. Kate’s husband William trained in the Royal Navy, and she sponsors the warship HMS Glasgow, demonstrating her current naval links.
Kate is also the new Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards of the British Army. Charles personally relinquished this position after inheriting it from his beloved grandmother, the Queen Mother.
In addition, the Princess of Wales became Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby, an air base for Typhoon fighter pilots.
Kate has family ties to the RAF, as she is the granddaughter of World War II pilot Captain Peter Middleton, and her husband is a former helicopter pilot.
The RAF post originally belonged to Princess Margaret before William took over in 2008. Now it is Kate who takes up the appointment, underlining her growing military rank.
Through regular engagements with companies, Kate will keep in touch with her new regiments.
These appointments mean that the Princess of Wales confidently assumes the void left by the late Queen.
They also reflect King Charles’ faith in Kate’s commitment to the armed forces community.
