Kate Middleton starred in an amusing moment during a recent royal engagement when she was trying out a life jacket that left her laughing her head off.
The Princess of Wales was visiting the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset in her capacity as Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Force.
A video captured her surprised reaction to inflating her life jacket while testing emergency equipment.
What happened to Kate Middleton’s lifejacket?
As technician Louise Evans-Hughes showed her various survival tools, the Princess agreed to try on a life jacket.
When Kate pulled the inflation cord, the life jacket quickly expanded around her torso, prompting an eruption of laughter from the royals.
Not anticipating how quickly the vest would inflate, Middleton was taken aback by the strength and size of the inflated vest.
However, she took the surprise in good humor. The Evans-Hughes technician reported that she had warned Kate that a loud noise might be heard as the Velcro opened during inflation.
This likely explained the Princess’s initial hesitation to pull the cord.
In the video, a smiling Kate jokes that the life jacket is “very snug” after it was fully inflated around her body.
Evans-Hughes stated that he deflated it slightly to make sure the Princess was comfortable during the demonstration.
The technician was impressed that Kate enthusiastically participated in the hands-on experience with the equipment despite the element of surprise.
The fun life jacket moment capped off an informative tour of the Princess through various areas of the naval base.
Middleton spent time in the air traffic control tower, listened to a helicopter crew communicate its landing and watched a fast RAF fighter buzz the control tower.
He also got to explore and learn about various types of helicopters critical to Royal Navy and Navy air operations.
Princess Kate once again demonstrated her willingness to actively participate in her royal duties during her time at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton.
