Kate Middleton is always a showstopper, no doubt about it. Every time she steps out, she wins hearts. But this time, the controversy isn’t about her—it’s about the Royal Family and a small detail that didn’t go unnoticed on International Women’s Day.
The Royal Family’s official Instagram account marked March 8 by paying tribute to the most important women in its history. So far, so good, with photos of Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and even the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie.
But two glaring omissions caught everyone’s attention: Kate Middleton and, even more shockingly, Princess Diana. Two royal icons beloved by the public and obvious choices for such a post.
Reactions to Kate Middleton’s absence on Women’s Day
As expected, this oversight—or “snub”—of the Princess of Wales didn’t sit well with royal followers, who flooded the comments section with questions about her absence.
Comments included:
- You’re missing The Princess of Wales, both of them
- Where is the Princess of Wales?
- Wow. Nothing about the Princess of Wales?
- Where is the Lady Di and the Princess of Wales?
- I’m sad to see no Princess of Wales…
- Sorry but you forgot The Princess of Wales!
- You missed HRH The Princess of Wales, HRH The Princess Royal and TRH The Princesses of York, they’re still members of the Royal Family.
- With all respect, I think the Princess of Wales should have been included in this list. She is both a great photographer and has been pictured by women too, like @milliepilkingtonphotography.
- Not the mother of the future king? No respect
- Princess Kate is your future Queen Consort. Poorly played. As always. If popularity is your protection, I suggest you showcase your greatest asset.
- And Catherine?!!!! With all respect, that was a very disrespectful omission

Meanwhile, Kate and William stayed in their lane. On their social media, they paid tribute to inspirational women they’ve met over the past year, from a Holocaust survivor to a young photographer who passed away from cancer. A much more relatable and heartfelt gesture, really.
In the end, the Royal Family found themselves a bit red-faced. It seems they overlooked an important detail, while Kate, as always, proved she has her own unique style.
Celebrating #InternationalWomensDay! Here are just a few of the brilliant women who have inspired us over the last 12 month…
