This year has been a real challenge for the British royal family, especially for Kate Middleton.
In March, Kate shared the difficult news that she was dealing with cancer, a serious health issue that she has bravely faced over these months.
However, after announcing in September that she had completed her treatment, it seems that the Princess is beginning to regain normalcy in her life.
Kate Middleton’s new statement
Kate recently released a powerful message as part of UK Addiction Awareness Week, which runs from November 30 to December 7.
Addiction Awareness Week 2024 aims to improve access to treatment and support for those facing addiction, as well as their family and friends.
As Royal Patron of The Forward Trust, a charity that supports people with addiction, Kate used the occasion to send a message of awareness.
“Addiction is not a choice. It is a serious mental health condition that could affect any one of us,” Kate wrote in her statement.
In her message, Kate also highlighted the progress that has been made in breaking down the stigma surrounding those struggling with addiction.
“It has been heartening to see that progress is still being made to end the stigma surrounding those battling addiction. For too long, many have suffered in silence, harboring feelings of shame and guilt about their condition, despite their vulnerability.”
Additionally, Kate emphasized the importance of showing compassion and support.
“Everyone suffering from addiction is another human being, with a story of their own, which many of us don’t understand or see. It is not our place to judge or criticize; we must take the time to sit by someone’s side, learning the values of love and empathy. Being a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen, these simple acts of kindness are crucial in breaking down the misunderstandings that so many face.”
To close her message, Kate reiterated the seriousness of addiction.
“Addiction is not a choice. It is a serious mental health condition that could affect any one of us. By acting with humility and compassion we can all make a difference and support those who are suffering.” She also mentioned that “Many charities up and down the country are guiding individuals and families through the toughest of times. But they cannot do it alone. It is up to each and every one of us to change the way we think about and consider the many people coping with addiction.”
This was not the only message Kate has shared recently. Along with William, they also expressed their condolences to the family of Liz Hatton, a 17-year-old who inspired many with her courageous account of cancer.
Kate had the opportunity to meet Liz at a reception at Windsor Castle, and following the tragic news of her passing, William and Kate wanted to send a message of support to her family.
After several months focused on her recovery, it seems that Kate is beginning to resume her official engagements.
Next week, she will attend one of the most important events of the year: she will receive the Emir of Qatar during his state visit to the UK, welcoming him at his London residence and accompanying him to Horse Guards for an official ceremony.
Additionally, we will also see Kate at next Friday’s annual Together for Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, a concert she has been performing for years now to celebrate Christmas.
Without a doubt, Kate’s journey is inspiring, and her commitment to important causes continues to be a beacon of hope for many.
