Kate Middleton’s pearl necklace for Commonwealth Day certainly stood out.
Kate seems to have inherited this jewel, known as the “Japanese Pearl Necklace,” along with other royal pearls.
The necklace has an intriguing history: the pearls were gifted to Queen Elizabeth II by the Japanese government in 1975 during a state visit. They are top-quality cultured pearls, and the Queen commissioned Garrard, the Crown jeweler, to turn them into a necklace.
He added a spectacular diamond clasp. Queen Elizabeth first wore it in the 1980s and adored it for its mix of pearls and diamonds.
Kate has worn the necklace on several occasions, including important moments. The first time she was seen wearing it was in 2017, for the 70th wedding anniversary of Elizabeth and Philip.
She also wore it at the funerals of the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth II, and more recently, at the second coronation ceremony of King Charles III in Scotland.
