The businesswoman and socialite, Kim Kardashian has bought a necklace once worn by Princess Diana. The stunning piece was auctioned by Sotheby’s, the jewelry store had in its possession the jewel worn by Lady Di in 1987.
Through a statement the jewelry has explained that four bidders competed for the piece, but finally a representative of Kim Kardashian was the one who has offered the most money. According to Sotheby’s the total price was more than double the pre-auction estimate.
“We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease on life in the hands of another world-famous name,” said Kristian Spofforth, Sotheby’s head of jewelry.
What does the Diana necklace Kim Kardashian bought look like?
The famous piece is known as the Attallah Cross. It is a cross encrusted with amethyst stones and diamonds weighing 5.25 carats and measuring approximately 136 x 95 mm.
It was designed in 1920 by Garrard, the same jeweler responsible for her engagement ring now worn by Kate Middleton.
The necklace was worn by the princess in October 1987 at the London charity gala for Birthright, now known as Wellbeing of Women, a charity that improves the health of women, children and babies.
On that occasion Lady Di wore a matching black and purple velvet gown by Catherine Walker.
How much Kim Kardashian paid for Diana’s necklace?
According to TMZ and Page Six Style, the socialite paid a total of $197,453 for the jewelry.
