The new official portrait of King Charles and Queen Camilla hides some interesting details.
The 75-year-old king and 76-year-old queen posed to celebrate the first year of their reign.
Recall that the monarchs officially took the reins of the monarchy in an impressive coronation ceremony on May 8, 2023.
Curiously, the coronation took place on the same day as the fourth birthday of Prince Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Harry attended the ceremony alone, and his presence made headlines due to his controversial relationship with several members of his family.
As if that weren’t enough, the Duke of Sussex had barely been on British soil for 24 hours for the coronation, and as soon as it was over, he went to Heathrow Airport, where he stayed for a few hours before catching his flight to California.
King Charles and Queen Camilla’s new official photo
In the new official photo of King Charles and Queen Camilla, published by Buckingham Palace this Friday, April 26, 2024, we can appreciate some remarkable details.
For example, the image in question was taken in the garden of Buckingham Palace on April 10, the day after the royal couple’s 19th wedding anniversary, by portrait photographer Millie Pilkington.
The photographer wrote on Instagram, “Feeling truly honored to have been asked to take this portrait of Their Majesties the King and Queen earlier this month in Buckingham Palace Gardens. And delighted that His Majesty the King is recovering so well.”
The photographer has a connection to the royal family, having taken pictures of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, in the past.
One of his photos showed Kate pushing Prince Louis in a wheelbarrow and was published in April last year to celebrate his birthday.
Pilkington was also called in for a historic moment for Prince George in July 2023: the portrait of his tenth birthday.
But that’s not all. The image was also chosen by the British Royal Household to announce that the King would finally resume his royal duties after months away from his duties due to his cancer treatment.
The announcement released by the British royal household reads:
His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.
To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.
In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.
As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.
