There are rumors that the British royal family might cut down on their summer plans because of the upcoming general election.
But don’t worry, Trooping the Colour is still happening.
Trooping the Colour 2024
Trooping the Colour is a big event held every June to celebrate the King’s birthday.
Even though his actual birthday might be on a different date, the celebration always happens in June.
During this event, the military presents their flags, known as “colours.”
The royal family takes part in a procession, either on horseback or in carriages, and then they watch an air show from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
This year, there are some uncertainties
King Charles is undergoing cancer treatment, and Princess Kate was also diagnosed with cancer recently.
It’s not clear yet how much King Charles will be able to participate or if Princess Kate will attend.
Despite these concerns, the British Army confirmed that the birthday parade for King Charles will be on June 15.
Almost a thousand soldiers and about 240 horses will participate in a practice run on May 30.
The full parade, including several rehearsals, will be overseen by Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw. The big parade happens three times on consecutive weekends every year.
Each year, a different regiment leads the parade. This year, the Irish Guards, of which Princess Kate is the honorary colonel, will be leading.
Last year, Prince William led the rehearsal as Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
Recently, King Charles and Prince William canceled some public events after the Prime Minister announced the general election date.
The royal family tries to stay out of the spotlight during election campaigns to avoid distracting the public from the election.
However, not all events are canceled. Over the weekend, Prince William and Prince George attended a soccer match at Wembley Stadium.
Other important events, like the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and King Charles’ first overseas trip since his diagnosis, are still scheduled.
