Rumors of a historic change in the British monarchy have begun to gain momentum and all the information comes from Spain.
According to reports, King Charles III would be evaluating the possibility of abdicating in favor of his son, Prince William soon.
This possible twist in the Royal House comes after recent reports about the health of the king, who, according to some media, is facing a decline in his battle against cancer.
King Charles is critically ill and preparing for Prince William to ascend the throne soon
According to Spanish journalist Concha Calleja, the situation of Charles III has led the crown to consider a change in leadership.
The journalist assured in a TV program that “the issue is very serious because of his illness”, which could bring forward the coronation of Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, as the new monarchs of the United Kingdom.
Abdication or regency?
Although abdication seems like a royal option, there are other alternatives that King Charles could take before leaving the throne altogether.
One would be to delegate his responsibilities to advisors of state, including Prince William, Princess Kate, Princess Anne, Princess Beatrice, Prince Edward and possibly Prince Harry. Calleja noted that Harry could return to his royal duties “although there will be no official announcement.”
Another possibility would be the appointment of a regency. In this case, William would assume the role of regent, taking the reins of the United Kingdom until his father decided to formally retire.
Kate Middleton back in hospital
On the other hand, Princess Kate Middleton, who in September moved all her followers by sharing that she had finished her preventive treatment against cancer, has also been in the spotlight.
In an emotional video, the princess thanked the support she received and expressed her desire to resume her official activities. Since then, she has made some public appearances, but according to the same journalist, at the end of October Princess Kate will be hospitalized to undergo a medical follow-up.
The results are expected to be favorable, which would allow the Princess of Wales to return to her royal engagements as soon as possible.
This quick recovery would be crucial, especially if events lead the couple to assume the throne ahead of schedule as suggested by the Spanish journalist.
If everything Calleja revealed is true and Charles III’s health worsens, the rise of Prince William and Princess Kate could be significantly accelerated.
Charles III to take a break from cancer treatment
Charles III will suspend his treatment during his upcoming royal tour of Australia and Samoa, scheduled for Oct. 18-26, 2024.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the king’s medical team has allowed this interruption while the monarch is abroad. Once back in the UK, Charles will resume his treatment.
This trip represents his first visit to Commonwealth countries since assuming the throne and becomes his furthest working trip since February, when the palace notified the public of his cancer diagnosis and the start of related treatment.
King Charles will not attend the COP29 Climate Conference.
It was recently reported in a brief statement, that the king will not attend the COP29 climate summit, to be held in Azerbaijan on November 11. This decision was taken after receiving advice from the government.
As reported by the Mirror, government officials emphasized that “great caution” was necessary in view of the sovereign’s busy schedule.
