King Charles is celebrating his first year as king in a modern way.
This april 6, the royal family posted a new 90-second video looking back at the three days of celebrations for the King’s crowning with Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023.
King Charles Celebrates First Coronation Anniversary
The video starts with the King greeting people outside Buckingham Palace the night before the coronation.
His message wishing everyone a great coronation weekend plays in the background.
It then shows King Charles and Queen Camilla traveling to the ceremony in a fancy coach and scenes from inside Westminster Abbey where the King was crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury with the St. Edward’s Crown.
The Archbishop said, “God save the King,” and the crowd of about 2,000 echoed the sentiment.
Afterward, the newly crowned King and Queen traveled back to the palace in another fancy coach and appeared on the balcony in their robes and crowns. The King even changed crowns during the ceremony.
A flypast by the Royal Air Force flew over the palace, and the pilot sent a message of congratulations, originally played during the Coronation Concert.
The video also includes moments like cheers from the British Armed Forces and shots of Kate Middleton and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh at community celebrations.
It shows Princess Kate, Prince William, and their children helping out at a volunteer event.
The video ends with Prince William’s heartfelt speech at the Coronation Concert where he expresses pride in his father, King Charles, and gratitude for all those who serve their communities.
Although King Charles became king when his mother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away, he followed tradition by having a formal crowning ceremony.
He added modern touches to the ceremony, like shortening it and using sustainable materials for his regalia.
Since the coronation, there have been changes in the royal family.
In February, it was announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer, though it was not prostate cancer as previously thought.
In March, Princess Kate revealed she was also undergoing cancer treatment.
King Charles has returned to his duties, including a recent visit to a cancer treatment center in London, while Princess Kate continues her treatment away from the public eye.
