Anyone would think that royals can live wherever they want and pay nothing, but that’s not quite true. The newly-minted King Charles III will have to pay his son William an amount for the property where he is living, but why is that?
William, after the death of his grandmother not only became the Prince of Wales, he also inherited the Duchy of Cornwall, one of the most wealthy and money producing properties for the crown.

One of these properties is Highgrove House, the monarch’s favorite, for which he must pay an annual rent of about 785,800 dollars.
“The king has a long-term lease and pays rent on Highgrove House and the surrounding grounds,” explained a source.
Despite Charles’ desire to keep Highgrove, the monarch will live at Buckingham Palace, the quintessential place for British kings.
