Last January 14, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark abdicated the throne after 52 years of reign. In her place, her son, Prince Frederik, took over the throne together with his wife Mary.

Faced with this historic change in the Danish monarchy, King Charles III of the United Kingdom was quick to send an emotional message to the new sovereigns.

As reported by Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British Royal Family, King Charles III wrote heartfelt words addressed to Margaret II and Frederik X.

In the message, which was also signed by his wife Camilla, the monarch conveys his best wishes to Frederik X on the day of his ascension to the throne of Denmark after more than five decades of his mother’s reign.

Charles III also stressed his intention to work together with the new Danish sovereign to ensure that the historic bond between the United Kingdom and Denmark, as well as between the two royal families, remains strong.

In this regard, he expressed his willingness to collaborate with Frederik X on various matters of global importance.

On the other hand, the British King paid tribute to the long reign of Margaret II, recalling with affection the frequent visits made between the two countries.
