King Charles III is reportedly feeling a deep sense of longing for his son, Prince Harry, as their relationship continues to suffer amidst ongoing tensions within the royal family.
According to royal expert Hilary Fordwich, the distance between the estranged father and son has only grown, especially after Harry’s recent brief visit to London, where they did not have the chance to see each other.
King Charles III misses Prince Harry
This year, the king has only had one opportunity to connect with Harry, which was back in February, following the news of his father’s cancer diagnosis.
Fordwich told Fox News, “If anyone would relent, it would be King Charles III, whom, of course, Prince William won’t challenge.”
The expert shared that while Charles deeply misses his “darling boy,” Prince William has taken a strong stance against Harry’s potential return to royal duties.
The rift between Harry and William has deepened since the Sussexes stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Their relationship took another hit with the release of Harry’s memoir “Spare” in January 2023, which revealed many personal details about royal life.
Additionally, the couple’s various projects, including their highly publicized interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 and their Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan,” have further strained family ties.
“However, to this day, after the release of [his memoir] ‘Spare’ and the Netflix series, it’s Prince William who adamantly refuses to even speak to his brother,” she added.
The root of their estrangement appears to be an issue of trust, with Fordwich suggesting that William is unlikely to forgive Harry for past grievances.
She explained, “He is now very much seen and accepted as the family enforcer, taking on the hard-line ruler role of his grandfather, Prince Philip.”
This has led to an unyielding stance from William, who has reportedly placed an “absolute ban” on Harry returning to the royal family in any official capacity.
Adding to the complexity, sources close to the palace revealed that Queen Camilla has advised Charles against meeting with Harry, fearing it could add unnecessary stress during his cancer treatment.
