On May 15, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a special service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
The service was for the Order of the British Empire, a group that honors people for their contributions to society.
Charles & Camilla Lead OBE Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral
King Charles, who is 75 years old, leads the Order of the British Empire, while Queen Camilla, who is 76, is its Grand Master.
The Order was started in 1917 to honor contributions during the war, but now it recognizes various kinds of service to the country.
When they arrived at the cathedral, King Charles and Queen Camilla were escorted into the church and joined a procession.
About 2,000 award recipients from the U.K. and Commonwealth countries attended the service.
While King Charles and Queen Camilla were at St. Paul’s, Prince William was at Windsor Castle giving out honors.
Princess Kate was not present at any events as she is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Family snub
This event came just a week after another significant event at the same cathedral.
On May 8, Prince Harry, who is 39 years old, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games with a Service of Thanksgiving.
Although Harry invited his family, including his father King Charles, his stepmother Camilla, his brother Prince William, and his sister-in-law Kate Middleton, none of them attended.
On the day of Harry’s event, King Charles and Queen Camilla were busy hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace, which is nearby.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry explained that the King had a full schedule and could not meet with Harry during his visit to the U.K.
“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the U.K. this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon,” the spokesperson said.
After Prince Harry’s short visit to the U.K., he and his wife Meghan Markle traveled to Nigeria for their first international tour since they stepped down from royal duties in 2020.
They returned to Los Angeles on May 14 and were seen leaving a private area at LAX airport before driving away in a white SUV.
