On February 5, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer following prostate surgery.
Since then, the 75-year-old monarch has stepped away from public life to focus on his medical treatment.
Although the type of cancer Prince William’s father is suffering from was not revealed, it was reported that it was caught early and that he has a high chance of beating the disease.
Amid the veil of uncertainty, Queen Camilla stepped forward and offered glimpses of reassurance during her recent attendance at a royal event. She asserted that the King was well, offering a glimmer of hope to an anxious nation.
But it was the King himself who broke the silence about his health.
King Charles statement
In a heartfelt statement released by Buckingham Palace on February 10, the monarch expressed his deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and good wishes he has received in recent days.
Also expressed his gratitude and admiration for organizations that help cancer patients and their families.
“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days,” the King said in the statement. “As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the U.K. and wider world,” the statement continued. “My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”
While King Charles recovers from his illness, Prince William, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and other members of the royal family will continue with their official schedule.
Princess Kate, who is also on medical leave, is expected to return to her royal duties after Easter.
