King Charles’ surgery has raised many expectations about the future of the British monarchy.

Some wonder whether Prince William, his eldest son and direct heir, will assume the role of King Regent while his father recovers from surgery.

Adding to the question mark are the decisions Elizabeth II’s son has made regarding the monarchy.

Charles has defended the idea of a reduced monarchy, involving only the closest members of the royal family.

If the King were to be absent due to illness or surgery, does this mean that Prince William would take on the role of King Regent until his father recovers?

Prince William, who is first in line to the British throne and also serves as an advisor to the king, will not be taking on any more responsibilities while his father recovers from surgery. This is according to People magazine, which cites sources close to the royal family.

In addition, Buckingham Palace has said that King Charles will only have to postpone his public engagements for a short period and that he will be able to continue to carry out his constitutional functions and duties, People magazine said.

Thus, King Charles’ operation does not entail any significant change in the structure and functioning of the British monarchy.

The King hopes to recover soon and resume his normal activities, while Prince William remains his main support and advisor.
