After a sad weekend in which he attended the funeral of his cousin Fernando Gómez-Acebo, who died recently of chronic respiratory failure, King Felipe has resumed his busy schedule of official engagements.
Accompanied by Queen Letizia, the monarch bid farewell to his cousin at a funeral parlor in Madrid.
However, when he returned to his royal duties this Monday, March 4, he did not do so in a routine manner. Instead, he showed a fatherly side that is rarely seen.
King Felipe at the Royal Palace of El Pardo
Normally, the King shares tender moments with his daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
This time, however, Felipe met with the winners of the 43rd edition of the “What is a King for you?”
In this competition, primary and secondary school students create works on the figure of the monarch and the role of the crown.
The King held individual meetings with each of the contestants, who explained the details of their projects.
During these conversations, Felipe could be seen smiling and listening attentively to the young people’s explanations.
In particular, his smile widened when he looked closely at one of the works presented.
This project included several paintings: Queen Letizia, Infanta Sofía, Princess Leonor and the monarch himself on a Ferris wheel decorated with the colors of the Spanish flag.
Each of these interactions revealed the facet of a proud father in the King, demonstrating the great admiration he has for youth and his commitment to the Crown.
