King Felipe VI enjoyed a weekend getaway to the ski resort of Baqueira, in the Lleida Pyrenees, without the company of Queen Letizia.
This is a custom that the monarch has maintained for years, taking the opportunity to enjoy his favorite sport in the company of a group of close friends.
King Felipe skiing in Baqueira
King Felipe VI has once again demonstrated his passion for skiing by taking a getaway to Baqueira, one of the most emblematic resorts in the Pyrenees.
This time, the monarch chose to enjoy a few days in the snow without the company of Queen Letizia, who is not a great enthusiast of this winter sport.
According to the local newspaper “Segre”, the King went to the area with a group of close friends, with whom he usually shares these sporting escapades.
Although the names of his companions have not been revealed, on previous occasions people such as Pedro López de Quesada or Beltrán Gómez-Acebo, among others, have been identified.
During his stay in Baqueira, the King not only skied on the slopes of the resort but also took the opportunity to visit the neighboring area of Beret.
In addition, the monarch and his group of friends enjoyed a pleasant evening at the restaurant “El Fogón del Valle”, located in Vielha, where they dined discreetly and without attracting too much attention.
The manager of the establishment, Tatiana Wandurraga, commented that they were unaware that the reservation was for the King until they saw him enter through the door, a common practice in the monarch’s more private outings.
Despite this, the royal visit did not go unnoticed by diners and ski enthusiasts in the area.
This getaway of Felipe VI to Baqueira is not something new, as the monarch usually takes the opportunity to enjoy his favorite sport in the company of his closest friends.
Although Queen Letizia does not usually accompany the King on these sporting escapades, the Royal Family has maintained a close relationship with Baqueira and the Val d’Aran area for decades.
