Infanta Sofia’s Graduation: Why Only Queen Letizia Will Attend

The Infanta Sofia’s graduation at UWC Atlantic College is just around the corner, marking the end of her academic stage in Wales.

However, one detail has attracted attention: King Felipe VI will not be able to attend the ceremony.

Although it is an event of great family relevance, the monarch’s busy schedule will take him away from his daughter on this special date.

Why King Felipe Won’t Attend Infanta Sofia’s Graduation?

The graduation ceremony, scheduled for the end of May, will be attended by Queen Letizia, who will represent the royal family.

However, the absence of Felipe VI will not go unnoticed, especially because Princess Leonor, who will be completing her training aboard the training ship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano”, will also be present.

The main reason for the king’s non-attendance is his commitment to the inauguration of the new president of Ecuador, an event to be held that same weekend.

After the second round of elections, scheduled for April 13, the new president will take office at the end of May, at which time Felipe VI is expected to be present as Spain’s representative.

This diplomatic engagement, of great importance in the international agenda, has forced the monarch to prioritize his institutional duties over the family event.

Despite this, from the Zarzuela’s environment they assure that Sofia is already prepared for this possibility and understands the situation.

“But she will be accompanied by her mother, Queen Letizia,” say close sources.

With graduation just around the corner, the Infanta Sofia is also beginning to define her future. Unlike her older sister, she has decided not to receive military training, which marks a significant difference in her path within the royal family.

“She would only receive it if she so wished,” sources explained at the time.

Sofia’s role within the royal family is yet to be defined, but what is certain is that, with her graduation, she closes one chapter and opens another full of crucial decisions for her future.
