In May 2022, Juan Carlos I returned to Spain for the first time since his departure to Abu Dhabi in 2020 due to judicial matters. During this visit, he participated in a regatta in Sanxenxo, receiving the affection of many Spaniards. After the event, he met with his family for lunch together at La Zarzuela.
When will King Juan Carlos I return to Spain?
Now, it has been confirmed that Juan Carlos I will return to Sanxenxo for the Spanish Cup to be held on April 22 and 23, 2023. He will arrive in Spain on April 19 and return to Abu Dhabi on the 23rd after the competition.
Prior to that, the former monarch will travel to London on April 18 to attend a private lunch with Charles III, as the emeritus will not attend the coronation on May 6.
Juan Carlos will return to the competition with the crew of his usual boat, the Bribón. With this boat, he won last year’s InterRías Spanish Cup trophy in the 6M category, in which he participated together with his friend Pedro Campos.
Recently Juan Carlos I was photographed in Abu Dhabi with his daughter, Infanta Elena, and the controversial grandson Felipe Juan Froilan. The three posed at the entrance of the Abrahamic Center, located in the cultural district of Saadiyat.
