King Juan Carlos returns to Spain after two years living in Abu Dhabi due to his financial scandals. The father of Felipe VI returns to the country this Thursday, May 19, specifically to the Galician town of Sanxenxo, where he will enjoy the regattas of the Copa del Rey de Vela.
The mayor of Sanxenxo was the one who confirmed that the king emeritus will be present at the regattas to be held this weekend in Pontevedra.
King Juan Carlos returns to Zarzuela Palace
Now, the Royal House itself, has issued a statement where they have assured that the visit of Juan Carlos I to Spain will end in Madrid, in the Zarzuela Palace, where he will meet again with his family.
“His Majesty King Juan Carlos has informed His Majesty the King’s Household this afternoon of his wish to make public his decision to travel to Spain from tomorrow, May 19, until next Monday, May 23. Don Juan Carlos plans to stay during those dates in the Galician town of Sanxenxo, and on Monday 23rd he will travel to Madrid, to be with His Majesty the King, with Her Majesty Queen Sofia and other members of his family at the Palace of La Zarzuela”, reads the statement issued by the Spanish Royal House.
The same communiqué confirms that Juan Carlos will not stay overnight at the palace and that after seeing his relatives, he will travel back to Abu Dhabi where he has established his residence.
